Internationalization, an important strategy in the policies of Iran University of Medical Sciences

Internationalization is considered as an important strategy in the policies of Iran University of Medical Sciences.
According to the university's Public Relations, Dr. Jalil Kouhpayeh-zadeh, the President of Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS), said on Saturday, February 27, 2021, in presence of the directors of the International Vice President of Iran University of Medical Sciences, "One of the strategies of Iran University of Medical Sciences is internationalization and to be international. This issue lies in the strategic plan of the university, of which we are in the final year, and this view should be in the form of a matrix in the comprehensive scientific plan of the university as well."
Referring to the importance of transnational and trans-regional development at Iran University of Medical Sciences, the IUMS President noted that, "This is an asset that exists at this university and cannot be neglected, and we should move more agilely for this purpose as much as we can in the fledgling office of Vice President for International Affairs. In 2020, despite the problems caused by the Covid-19 epidemic, the office of Vice President for International Affairs was one of the busiest Vice President offices of the university and we witnessed good work in this office. Beside this favorable outcome, there were also problems, including the establishment of the School of Dentistry on the International Campus, which was a great event happened this year as a result of several years of effort.
The School of Dentistry is in the first days of its life and hopefully it will be a national brand in the coming years by learning from the experiences of the School of Pharmacy. Obtaining the agreement in principle for the establishment of the School of Pharmacy was another good event for this fledgling field at the IUMS, which of course still has a lot of potentiality for completion and we should try. The two schools of dentistry and pharmacy, due to their newness and small size, have more problems and are different from the School of Medicine, but their successes are also more tangible.
Iran University of Medical Sciences has the third largest population of faculty after Tehran and Shahid Beheshti Universities of Medical Sciences, and development and recruitment of faculty members in the schools of pharmacy and dentistry can increase and affect greatly the excellence of the university, particularly the number of faculty members.
Research and technology in world rankings are of importance, thus scientific activities of the schools of pharmacy and dentistry are also effective in improving the research level of the university, so that older medical universities can benefit from that. Therefore, we must work harder to shorten the time to reach these conditions.”
The President of Iran University of Medical Sciences emphasized that, “It is important for colleagues in the Office of Vice President for International Affairs to study the action plan of other fields as well, so that the related cases are extracted and then can be used for the development in the international field. I hope that next year we will proceed according to the action plan designed in the Office of Vice President for International Affairs and we will accomplish in six months most of the work that has started so far.
At the end of the meeting, Dr. Mehdi Moghtadaei, the Vice President for International Affairs, reported that more than 1100 students are studying on the international campus of Iran University of Medical Sciences, of which 546 have been admitted through the national entrance exam. These students include 259 international students, 231 Iranian students transferred from abroad to the School of Medicine, 300 students in the School of Pharmacy, half of whom are international students, and 25 students are transferred to the School of Dentistry.
