History of the International Campus

 | Post date: 2019/02/16 |
Enjoying an effectively rich background in education and research, and in line with its strategic, educational and research programs, Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS) launched the International Campus in 2009, on the eve of entering the third-generation universities club.

The International Campus was established and started its operation, initially, with merely its own specific School of Medicine located in Payam Free Zone, under the title of "Payam Campus." However, all the schools affiliated to the university would collaborate with the campus and provide an opportunity for higher education candidates to pursue their studies at any schools of the university as post-graduate or Ph.D. students.

The International Campus launched its second school in October 2013; the School of Pharmacy is the first internationally operating school in pharmacy in Iran. Based on the international standards, and enjoying the experienced faculty members, well-equipped laboratories, and modern laboratory and research equipment as well as appropriate educational and research milieu the School of Pharmacy annually admits and educates both local and international students interested in doctor of pharmacy (Pharm.D.). Currently, the school comprises 6 departments, including BiotechnologyClinical PharmacyMedicinal ChemistryPharmaceutics,Pharmacoeconomics and Pharmaceutical Administration, and Pharmacology and Toxicology.

Considering the new approach of the university to move towards the third-generation universities and to focus on the internationalization, the International Campus and the activities thereof have further attracted the attention of the university’s senior officials, a consequence of which was the establishment of the third school of the International Campus “School of Dental Medicine” in 2018. According to a memorandum of understanding signed between the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) and the IUMS, the International Campus School of Dental Medicine and the EMU Faculty of Dentistry jointly admitted the first group of dental medicine students in the academic year 2018-19.

The present approach of the International Campus is to maximally exploit the hardware and software capabilities of all the affiliated schools of the IUMS and the existing capacity provided by the international partnerships and memoranda so as to be able to play its role appropriately.
